Margaret Ruth Peckham, 95, Topeka, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004 at Aldersgate Village.
Ruth was born March 25, 1909 to Anna and John Corneluis and raised on a farm in Miami County, Kansas.
Ruth attended Washburn University and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. During her lifetime she worked for Jenkins Music, Crane and Company Stationers and the Santa Fe Treasurer's office. In later years Joe and Ruth owned and operated the Auburn Feed and Seed store for over 10 years.
She married Joe Peckham May 16, 1953, in Topeka, KS. He preceded her in death Jan. 31, 2000.
Ruth was an avid horsewoman, riding until the age of 94. She was a member of the Topeka Round-Up Club and Kansas City Dressage Society. She rode in the Sunflower State Games in 2003 and was accepted into the Dressage Century Club. Ruth was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She was loved and admired by family and friends.
Survivors include 3 sisters, Evelyn Anderson, Idyllwild, CA, Gladys Hutson, Lenexa, KS and Virginia Cavinee, Fontana, KS, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, Aug. 16, 2004 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Ruth Peckham will lie in state after 1:00 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004 until service time at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel.
