Margaret "Muriel" Poirier, 85, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Stormont Vail Health Center.
Margaret was born on November 11, 1922 in Ottawa, Canada, the daughter of Alex and Elizabeth (Cooper) Winton.
Margaret married George Poirier on October 21, 1943 in Dearborn, Michigan. They were married for 64 years. He survives.
Margaret was a homemaker. During WWII she worked for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI in the aircraft assembly. She was a block mother for many years; volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Let's Help.
She was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church for more than 20 years.
Margaret is survived by three sons, Richard and Chris Poirier of Topeka, and Daniel and Michele Poirier of K.C., MO; five daughters, Susan Casey of Seattle, WA; Karen Beck of Orange, CA; Lynda Poirier of Lake Forest, CA; Wendy Collins of Topeka, and Janice Khorram of Norfolk, VA, ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 17, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. She will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Sunday, where the family will greet friends from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.
