Margaret O. "Peggy" Baldry, 85, Topeka, died Saturday, May 1, 2010 at her home.
She was born Dec. 4, 1924 in Guthrie, OK, the daughter of Ernest E. and Mildred Bond Offen. She attended Guthrie public schools, graduating in 1942. She later received her Bachelor of Music degree from Oklahoma State University in 1945 and a Master of Music degree from Northwestern University in 1947. She taught music at Edison Institute and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI.
She married Charles Baldry on Aug. 27, 1949 in Topeka. He died Feb. 4, 2010.
Peggy worked at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home for several years as organist and office secretary. She served as assistant organist and handbell director at First Presbyterian Church, and as organist at North Topeka Baptist Church and at First Church of Christ, Scientist. She was a member and ordained Elder of First Presbyterian Church, Chapter FJ of the PEO Sisterhood, Minerva Club, Beulah Chapter #34 OES, Beulah Diamonds service club, Council #1 Ancient Toltec Rite, Social Order of the Beauceant, Mother Advisor of Topeka Rainbow Assembly #77, and IdAKA Club. She was very active in Topeka music circles, and served as a volunteer at Topeka Public Library, Topeka Rescue Mission and Let's Help.
Survivors include her children, William E. and Carol Baldry, Mary E. and Donald Ballue, Richard G. and Diana Baldry, and Margaret M. and Ward Bengston; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with inurnment in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 pm Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Music Departments at Washburn University or First Presbyterian Church.
