Margaret Ivy Howey, 80, of Topeka, died on Wednesday, April 15, 2015.
Margaret was born in Sandwich, Kent England June 11, 1934. She married U.S. Army Sergeant, William H. Howey in 1953 and became a US Citizen in 1959. An avid animal lover, Margaret spent many years working for the Lawrence Humane Society.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William H. Howey, son Jeff Howey of Topeka, sisters Rose, Shirley, Iris and brother Peter of England.
She is survived by her brother, George Hickmore of England, sister Eva of Australia, daughter Elizabeth (Larry) Montgomery of Topeka, daughter Patricia (Mike) McBee of Kansas City, daughter Midge (Mark) Grinstead of Lawrence, daughter-in-law, Nena Howey, 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was a lovely and kind lady that will surely be missed by all who know her. As stated in her own words "remember the pleasant times we had and the many laughs".
The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 27th at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2015 at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 8th Street, Leavenworth, KS.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Humane Society of the United States, 2100 L St., NW, Washington, D.C. 20037.
