Margaret Gunn

Margaret Gunn, 86, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at her home after a short illness.

She was born December 11, 1919 in Topeka, the daughter of Thomas and Pearl Hopkins.

Margaret was raised and grew up in Reading, Kansas along with her siblings and was a 1936 graduate of Reading High School. She moved to Topeka in 1937 and attended Strickler's Business School. She went to work for the V.A. Hospital where she met her husband, Glenn N. Gunn. They were married on April 27, 1947 in Reading, Kansas. She was a legal secretary for several years and worked for USD 501 for 11 years, retiring in 1975. She was an active member of First Southern Baptist Church and was an avid reader. She was fond of knitting, helping in the church library, and volunteering in many church activities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn in July of 2000, a son Robert Lynn in May, 1964, three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Gwenda Wilcox and her husband James; two sons, Glenn N. Gunn and Thomas Gunn and his wife Judy, all of Topeka; six grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gunn will lie in state after 2:00 pm, Monday, December 19 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 pm that evening. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 20 at the funeral home with burial to follow at 2:30 pm that afternoon in the Reading Cemetery in Reading, Kansas.
