Margaret Louise "Margie" Canfield, 91, of Topeka, Kansas died at her home surrounded by family on March 15, 2022.
Margaret Louise Paramore was born on September 7, 1930, in Topeka, KS, one of four daughters of Everett and Agnes Paramore. She graduated Topeka High School in 1948. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Topeka.
She married her high school sweetheart Donald Frederick "Moe" Canfield on June 17, 1951 in Topeka, Kansas. Being 20 at the time, Moe had to get his mother's signature to get married.
More than half of her life was defined by her work and volunteerism with the Kansas Republican Party. She was proud to be moderate and gave tirelessly to candidates in whom she believed. A poem titled "Our GOP Dear," written about Margie, was once published in a Shawnee County Republican newsletter and included a line that read "Candidates all love her and the ground where she walks."
Margie and Moe were active in their communities. They were members of Shawnee Country Club, where Moe was once President, and managers of River Bend in Brownsville, Texas where they spent their winters in retirement.
Margie was preceded in death by Moe and her daughter, Christine Lucinda Canfield of Topeka. She was also preceded in death by her three sisters, Mary Anne Sumner, Evelyn Weilert, and Jane Munns. She is survived by her son, Courtney Canfield of Rhinebeck, New York; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Dan Canfield (Ces Redshaw, son Cooper Canfield of Overland Park, Kansas) of Dana Point, California, Kathryn Canfield (Autumn Lutge) of Fremont, California, Courtney Lynn Canfield of Topeka, Kansas, Colin Canfield (Alexis, sons Declan and Rémy) of Bellevue, Washington and Bryce Canfield (Stacy, daughters Madelyn and Emily) of Leawood, Kansas.
Margie's funeral will be held at First Congregational Church, 1701 SW Collins Ave., Topeka, KS on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 2:00pm. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Margie was laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to First Congregational Church or Topeka High School Historical Society.
