Marcia Ann (McCue) Hemphill, 87, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Midland Hospice.
Marcia was born December 3, 1929, in Topeka, KS, to Howard and Blanche (Larson) McCue. She attended Randolph and Potwin Elementary Schools, Roosevelt and Boswell Junior High Schools, and Topeka High School, graduating in 1947.
She then attended Kansas State where she joined Chi Omega Sorority. After transferring to Washburn she studied english and music, graduating with a BA in 1951. After college Marcia taught at the elementary school level for a year. She had a love for classical music and piano, continuing to play piano until the past couple of years.
Marcia married Donald Hemphill May 2, 1959. They had four children: Carol, Lisa, Mike, and Mark. Lisa predeceased her parents during infancy. Marcia and her family had fond memories of their vacations to Colorado, stopping on the way to visit her husband's parents in Norton, KS. Marcia's husband, Don, passed away October 15, 2012.
She is survived by her children, Carol, Mike, and Mark, all of Topeka; grandson, Mike, Jr. of Topeka; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Tom McCue of Overland Park, KS and Allan Homer McCue of Wenham, MA; sister, Mary McCue of Lawrence, KS; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2017, at West Lawn Memorial Gardens, 820 SW Auburn Road, Topeka, KS (I-70 and Auburn Road). The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS.
