Mamie Belle Day Koontz passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at her home in Topeka.
She was born Oct. 30, 1924 in Geary County (near Junction City) to George Washington and Edith Signer Day. She moved to Herington Kansas in 1934 and graduated from Herington High School. Mamie attended Strickler's Business College in Topeka. She worked as a secretary in Manhattan and Herington from 1942-1943.
Mamie married Glen Koontz in Williamsville, NY on July 17, 1943. They lived in several states while Glen worked for Curtis-Wright Corp. In 1947 they moved to Hutchinson and lived there until 1960 when they moved to Topeka.
Mamie was a member of Crestview United Methodist Church and was very active in the UMW group for many years serving in several positions.She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Glen. Also surviving: her daughter Teresa Tuchscherer of Topeka, her son Greg and daughter-in-law Kama of Seattle WA and her sister Irene Junghans of Junction City KS. Preceding her in death was a son, Jeffrey in 1957 and her parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM Monday, August 30, 2004 at Crestview United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Koontz will lie in state from noon Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel and the family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00PM to 8:00PM that evening.
