Mamie Anderson

Mamie Delores Anderson was born on February 11, 1913, in Wessington Springs, SD, fourth child of Rosie Mae Tate Stuart and Arthur Tillman Stuart. She went home to be with her Lord on March 28, 2008. She passed away at home with loving family at her bedside.

Mamie grew up in Mexico, MO with 4 sisters and 4 brothers. She started work at age 14 in a restaurant as a waitress, where when she was 18, she met and married John A. Anderson. After marrying, John and Mamie moved to Springfield, MO and shortly after that to Terre Haute, IN where their first daughter, Marlene was born. After traveling on the road with John's work they moved back to Springfield, MO where their second daughter, Kay was born. After World War II, the family moved to Topeka, KS where their third daughter, Margaret Ann was born.

Mamie worked in Topeka for several grocery stores as a checker. At Peyton Frittons, she worked for 15 years. After leaving the retail business, she worked for the Capitol-Journal as a dispatcher for print ads, retiring at age 74.

Mamie and John divorced in 1960. Several years later around 1978, Mamie met her life long companion of 20 years, Ted McKinley. They enjoyed many trips, camping and fishing with friends, and spending winters in Lake Isabella until his death in 1998.

Mamie was a people person. She never met a stranger. Every morning while living at South Lake Village Mobile Home Park, Mamie's coffee buddies would be around her kitchen table enjoying their friendship. Mamie loved to quilt, garden, play a quarter or two in the slots, and play cards.

She loved life and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends. She will be missed more then words can express.
