M. Maureen Marcy

M. Maureen Marcy, 93, passed away on June 16, 2015. Maureen was born to Ray F. and Rebecca Marie (Addington) Deever on January 31, 1922. She graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University, where she pledged Alpha Phi, and recently became a 75 year member.
She married Ernest R. "Ernie" Marcy on January 16, 1943, in Phoenix, Arizona, where Ernie was training to be an Army Air Corp pilot during WWII. Ernie and Maureen were married for 67 years prior to his death in September, 2009. Maureen worked at Santa Fe prior to her marriage and while Ernie was overseas in WWII. After Ernie was discharged from the service, she was primarily a homemaker, but worked for the Census Bureau in 1970 and 1980 and was a licensed real estate agent for several years. She was an excellent seamstress and knitter and enjoyed making clothes and sweaters for herself and her family.
Besides her husband Ernie, she was also preceded in death by her son Denny in 2010; her parents; her sister, Marge Claussen; and her brother, Don Deever.
She is survived by sons Steve, Washington, D.C. and Tom (Monica) of Greenwood, AR, and her daughter Marianne (Allan) Wessel, Topeka; her grandchildren, Adam (Erica) Arnold, Overland Park; Amy (Marc) Hedstrom, Topeka; Jennifer Wessel, Topeka; and Ryan Marcy, Topeka; her step-granddaughter, Jessica (Andy) Box, Mission, and four great-grandchildren; Brandon, Hayden, Colin and Ellie, and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their many thanks to the staffs of Rolling Hills Assisted Living, Grace Hospice, and Blassingame Home Care, who provided caring comfort, support and love to Mom, and to Lori of Comfort Keepers, who helped ease us into this phase of her life and keep her in her home as long as possible.
Maureen will lie in state from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Grace Hospice, 3715 SW 29th Street #100, Topeka, Kansas 66614, in Maureen's memory.
