Lyle D. Cherry, 70, of Topeka, passed away Monday, March 7 2005 at a local care facility.
Lyle was born December 21, 1934 in Luray, KS , the son of Warren and Mary Chrisler Cherry.
He graduated from Luray High School in 1952. He attended Fort Hays State University for two years. He moved to Topeka in 1978 and remained there for the rest of his life. He was a Civil Engineer for the Kansas Dept. of Transportation for over forty years. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was active in the choir and Sunday School class. He was also a member of the Topeka Barbershop Singers.
He married Sondra McKanna in 1954 in Luray, Kansas. She preceded him in death on January 31, 2003.
Survivors include: two sons;David Cherry and his wife Robin, Elk Grove, CA; Steven Cherry and his wife Wendy, Baldwin City. KS: one daughter; Janet Kuntzsch and her husband Bill of Topeka, seven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Mr. Cherry will lie in state after 1:00 pm Thursday, March 10 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 11 at First Baptist Church, 3033 SW. MacVicar, Topeka, KS with a 4:00 pm burial service to follow in Luray Cemetery in Luray, KS.
