Lyla M. Sligar, 89, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2005 at a Topeka care center. She was born on April 3, 1916 in Glade, the daughter of Floyd W. and Flossie A. Northup Stevens. She graduated from Topeka High School. Lyla was an office assistant for Dr. Reynolds. She was a member of Oakland Christian Church and later attended Highland Park Christian Church. She married George L. Sligar on September 4, 1938 in Topeka. He preceded her in death in 1988. Survivors include one daughter, Lylene Critchlow of Topeka, one son, Donald L. Sligar of Oregon City, OR., six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one brother, William Stevens of Tulsa, OK. and a special friend, Willard Shaw of Topeka. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Topeka Cemetery. Mrs. Sligar will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening.
