Lura Lee Dryer, 84, Topeka, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2014.
Lura was born February 10, 1930 in Topeka, the daughter of Emil and Esther (Kasson) Lietz. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1947 and the first class of Stormont-Vail School of Nursing in 1950.
She was employed as a Registered Nurse with Stormont-Vail for many years and started the Pre-Admissions department, retiring in 1985.
She was a member of the Jane C. Stormont and Stormont-Vail School of Nursing Alumni, a life member of the Stormont-Vail Women's Auxiliary, volunteered for Hospice and a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church .
Her big love was Bluegrass music. She enjoyed aqua exercise and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lura married Emerson A. Dryer on October 28, 1949 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Topeka. He preceded her in death. Survivors include their children, David (Joyce) Dryer, Meriden, Mark (Michelle) Dryer, Salina, Lynne (Byron Endsley) Dryer, Topeka; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Sharon Eulert, Topeka and Reta Hamilton, Bella Vista, AR.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at St. John's Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Lura will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel after 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday and the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Topeka Lutheran School.
