Lucy Ellen Thornton Redding, 91, of Topeka passed away Monday Feb. 20, 2006 at Aldersgate Village.
She was born July 7 1914 on a farm in rural Greenwood County, the daughter of William A. and Maggie Crowell Thornton.
She graduated from Madison High School and attended the Kansas State Teachers College, receiving a Life Teaching Certificate. She received a Bachelors of Education as well as a Masters of Education degree from Washburn University. She also had several hours of remedial reading education. She was an elementary teacher in rural Greenwood County for many years and for USD 501 for several years.
She was an active member of Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church and held several offices in the UMW. She was also a member of the Chimes Choir at Aldersgate Village.
She married Wendell W. Redding on April 12, 1943 in Seattle, WA. He survives.
Other survivors include a brother, William Thornton and wife Lola of Garnett, KS and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Redding will lie in state after 2:00 pm Wednesday Feb. 22 at Penwell- Gabel Mid Town Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday Feb. 23 at Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
