Lucy Elizabeth Simmons Hugg died Friday, June 10, 2005 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. She was born on August 18, 1910 at Centropolis, Ks., the daughter of George and Rosa Haas Simmons. She attended Franklin County schools and Clarks Business School in Topeka. She was a secretary to the director of Laboratories, Kansas State Department of Health for forty years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Topeka, Shawnee County Republican Women and the Shawnee Country Club. She married Benn Wynn Hugg on December 7, 1941 at Ottawa. He preceded her in death on January 23, 1988. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Iva Palmer, Hazel Lee Simmons, Olga Simmons and Maude Simmons and a brother, Tilfred Simmons. Survivors include one brother, Harold Simmons of Ottawa, a niece, Janet Radcliffe of rural Overbrook, two nephews, Robert Palmer of Kansas City, MO and Fletcher Simmons of Manhattan. Cremation is planned. A private family service will be held with burial at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa. Memorial contributions may be given to the Good Samaritan Fund at Aldersgate Village c/o Aldersgate Village, 7220 S.W. Asbury Dr., Topeka, Ks. 66614. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
