Lucille M. (Helberg) Brill, 99, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020.

She was born April 6, 1921, in Lindsborg, Kansas, the daughter of Gust and Anna (Norstrom) Helberg.

Lucille graduated from Lindsborg High School and went on to continue her education at Christ's Hospital School of Nursing.

She volunteered at the Shawnee County Health Department for many years and did relief office nursing for several Doctors in the Topeka area. She became employed by the Shawnee County Health Department in 1967 and retired in 1982 after 15 years. With the Health Department she held many hats; from a visiting nurse, clinic nursing, nursing home evaluator, to being a discharge planning nurse for patients in the three hospitals: Stormont Vail, St. Francis and Memorial.

Lucille was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Primetimers, City Retirees, Arab Shrine Auxiliary, Topeka Retired Officers Auxiliary and Christs Hospital Alumni.

She was an avid bowler and an enthusiastic sports fan and attended all of her children and grandchildren's athletic events. She also enjoyed Washburn University basketball (boys and girls) and sat front row with her husband "Brill" for many years.

Lucille married Gilbert W. Brill on January 17, 1942 in Denver, Colorado, he preceded her in death on October 20, 2009. Survivors include daughter, Sally L. Deghand, Topeka; granddaughters, Michelle R. Kern and husband Mark, Lawrence, KS, and Jami L. Deghand, Topeka; great-grandchildren, Emilee Kern, Haylee Kern, and Bradyn Kern and nieces, Sandra Armstrong and Nancy Givens.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Mary Brill-Maday, brothers, William and Marion Helberg and nephew, Jerry Helberg.

Entombment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka, KS and services may be held at a later date.

The family welcomes donations to the Alzheimer's Association, The ALS Association, or American Cancer Society in honor of Lucille Brill as an expression of sympathy instead of flowers.
