LTC (Ret) James M. Herring, 77, passed away Tues., Aug. 12 at his home. He was born Feb. 18, 1931 in Sparks, KS the son of Max and Blanche Herring.
On Sept. 28, 1951 Jim married Ann Zimmerman in Highland, KS. For 28 of 40 years he was a civil servant while serving in the Kansas Army National Guard. He was a Past Master of Orient Lodge No. 51 A.F.&A.M. and Past Patron of Beulah Chapter No. 34 OES. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Ann of the home; two sons, Jim and his wife Robin, Jere; a daughter, Angie; a sister, Darlyne Bennett; three grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Sat., Aug. 16 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Jim will lie in state after 3:00 p.m., Fri. Aug. 15 with visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice or Beulah Chapter No.34 OES in care of the funeral home.
