Louise M. Carter, 98, Topeka, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Stormont-Vail Hospital. She was born on June 11, 1914 in Rosedale, Kansas to Emma and Gottlieb Rieder.
Louise and her family moved to Lenexa, Kansas in the early 1920's, where they operated a dairy farm. She graduated from Shawnee Mission High School and attended Emporia State University and Kansas State University. Louise taught in elementary schools in Lenexa. She later worked at KU Medical Center. On November 25, 1947 she married Ray E. Carter. They moved to Topeka in 1949. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral, where she previously taught Sunday school. Louise volunteered at various organizations in Topeka. She enjoyed finding art and collectibles at garage sales. Many of pictures she found, she refurbished and framed.
Mrs. Carter is survived by her children, Ann L. Carter, Riley, KS and Ray E. Carter, Jr. of Lawrence, KS; two grandchildren, Helen and Rose Carter, Riley, KS and two brothers, John Rieder of Bethel, MO and Richard Rieder of Shawnee Mission, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Carter was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 10 am, Saturday, February 2 at the Grace Episcopal Cathedral. Inurnment will follow the service at the Chapel of Resurrection Columbarium at the church. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
