Louise May (Spencer) Douglas, 74, of Topeka, died Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Midland Hospice House. She was born May 21, 1933, in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of Raymond and Cordellia Spencer. After her family moved to Topeka in 1946, she graduated from Roosevelt Junior High School and Topeka High School. On July 6, 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Dean Douglas. In addition to raising five children, Louises career included working for Bell Telephone and the state of Kansas. She also kept the books for her husbands service station and prepared tax returns for family and friends for many years. She served as a Girl Scout leader and school room mother, and she was a member of the Topeka Moose Lodge and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her husband, Robert, of the home; daughters Jan Neely, of Mesa, Arizona, Cherie Bauer, Deanna Douglas and Tammy Witte, all of Topeka; a son, Rob Douglas, of Topeka; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and a beloved poodle, Cassie. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 16, at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, at the funeral home.
