Loris Miller

Loris "Maxine" (Howe) Miller, 85, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2009. Born August 7, 1924, in Topeka, KS, the daughter of Eva Rose (Fry) and William "Bill" Howe.

Maxine married George L. Miller on June 3, 1955, in Topeka. He preceded her in death on March 14, 2003.

Maxine worked in food service, stationary production, and countless volunteer services.

She spent many years serving her Lord and others through church involvement, holding many church positions. She especially enjoyed the youth and Vacation Bible School ministries. Her life was exemplified by giving supportive encouragement, prayers, timely and appropriate Bible verses and passages to those she shared life with, often being adopted as "Mom" or "Grandma."

Mom's primary life focus was a homemaker. Dad praised her, and her children blessed her, as she lived her life in the noble character of Proverbs 31.

Survivors include two daughters, Jayne (Richard) Bleam of Tennessee; Gwyn Figgs of Topeka; two brothers, Donald Howe and Gerald Howe, both of Topeka; 3 grandchildren, Adam (Cammy), Apryl, and Jonathan, and two great-grandchildren, Rylee and Colton.

Preceding her in death was a sister, Joann Deever and two brothers, Hallard and Ronald Howe.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 3 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Maxine will lie in state after 4:00 p.m. Wed. at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 7-9:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care Services, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, 66606 or Hospice Care of Kansas, 2900 SW Oakley Avenue, Topeka, 66614.
