Loretta Smith

Loretta F. Smith, 85, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2006 at a local care facility.

She was born May 23, 1921 in Topeka, the daughter of John A. and Nellie B. (Denton) Allen.

She attended Topeka public schools. She moved to Denver, CO for several years to work for Dupler's Furs. She met her future husband there and returned to Topeka to get married. Music was a very important part of her life. She and her twin sister enjoyed singing, playing the violin, and singing as a duet for church choirs and funerals.

She married Varrick C. Smith on July 30, 1971 in Topeka. He preceded her in death in 1978. She was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her twin sister, Lorena F. Allen of Topeka.

At her request, Mrs. Smith was cremated. A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, August 24, 2006 at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
