Loretta "Peggy" Marie Kuhn Bergeron, 96, died at The Homestead of Topeka on April 3, 2008 under the care of Midland Hospice.
She was born in Victoria, KS October 10, 1911. She was baptized at St. Fidelis Church, Victoria. She said she was the first baby baptized in the "new church."
Peggy married Jerome Bergeron October 19, 1954. They lived in England, Okinawa, Japan and several cities in the United States due to Lt. Col. Bergeron's active military service in the Air Force. He died in January 1976.
The Bergeron's retired to Sedona, AZ in 1964 to enjoy the beautiful canyon areas. Peggy moved to Topeka, KS soon after her 90th birthday in 2001 and resided at Drury Place Apartments until her illness.
Peggy lived in Park, KS until 1925 when she traveled to Topeka to work for the Nuss family. She graduated Topeka Catholic High School in 1930 and later Strickler's Business School. She worked as a bookkeeper at various businesses including W.A.L., Thompson Hardware and the Santa Fe Railroad.
She was known for her independent spirit, sense of humor, love of gardening and her devotion to the Latin Mass. She was a member of St. John Vianney Latin Mass Community, Maple Hill, Kansas and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents Michael and Katharine Braun Kuhn, brothers Edmund (Ruth), Herbert (Josephine), Eleanor (Bob), Leone (Carl), Paul (Anne), and Donald.
She is survived by a brother, Elmer (Edith), sisters Wilma (Dick) Chaffin, Louise (Bill) Barrett, sister-in-law Barbara Kuhn and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great great-nieces and great-great nephews.
Peggy will lie in state after 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2008 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Topeka. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
