Lola Louise Boydston, 92, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2011 at Presbyterian Manor. She was born on June 17, 1919 in Topeka, Kansas to Clarence W. and Gertrude M. (Kerle) Thompson.
Lola attended Topeka Public Schools. On June 1, 1946, she married Elmer Dean Boydston. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2010. As a teenager, she worked at Brown's Grocery and Hardware. For approximately ten years, Lola worked at Morrell Packing Plant before working at home as a homemaker. She was a past member of Second Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school. She later became a member at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Lola was also a member of Active Prime Timers and AARP. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed reading and loved spending time with her two granddaughters, to whom she was known as "Buckie".
Lola is survived by her two sons, Stephen R. Boydston and James S. Boydston, both of Topeka and two granddaughters, Jessie (Lance) Visser of Riley, KS and Amelia Boydston of Topeka. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter-in-law, Jackie Boydston, her sister, Eileen Johnson and brother, Vernon Thompson.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 13 at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at Presbyterian Manor, 4712 SW 6th,Topeka, KS 66606.
