Lois L. Vicory

Lois Lucille (Marshall) Vicory, 93 years, Topeka, passed into the next world on November 7, 2018, after a short illness.
Born July 12, 1925, in Richmond, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Wilburn and Gladys Marshall. Lois actively grew up in Richmond having many friends and fond memories while attending their schools. Lois loved to sing as her voice was often noticed in First Christian Church of Richmond. She graduated from Richmond High School in 1943 and worked several jobs at the local grocery and shoe stores.
During WWII, a high school classmate who was attending Navy officer training school at Park College brought back a friend for Lois to meet. His name was Freeman M. Vicory. A strong and inseparable relationship developed as years passed. On May 4, 1947 the two were married at First Christian Church. Freeman was a Civil Engineer for the State of Kansas moving to small Kansas communities before settling in Topeka, Kansas. Topeka became their lifelong home, raising four children, attending First Lutheran Church, and meeting forever friends.
Freeman preceded her in death on May 12, 2014 after 67 years of marriage. A son, David Alan Vicory, and brother, Snowden Marshall, also preceded her in death.
Over the years, she clerked for grocery stores, worked for the Kansas Legislative and was a volunteer to many civic and church organizations such as Doorstep. Lois loved to sing, square dance and play cards with friends. She was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church serving in the choir and on committee.
Her life's purpose and priority was her Christian faith, devotion to her husband and mother to four children. As a homemaker, she provided a foundation of love and respect for others. People were never strangers but an avenue for her to engage and converse. Famous for her long Christmas letters, she was proud to let others know her transparencies and emotions whether it be times of joy or sadness. Her collection of "Precious Moments" sums up her joy in living for the moment. Lois was kind, generous and gracious. Lois will be missed by her family, friends and everyday street people's gazing eyes.
Survivors include a daughter Marsha (Jerauld) Serk of Topeka; two sons, William (Karen) Vicory of Topeka, Jay (Sue) Vicory of Mound City, Kansas; a brother, James (Shirley) Marshall of Richmond, Missouri; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Lois will lie in state from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2018 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm. Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Jenny Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
