Lois Elaine (Lee) Scott, 81, Topeka died Thursday, May 19, 2005 at her home after a long illness. She was born in Topeka on February 1, 1924, the youngest daughter of Sherwood and Leah Bailey Willcuts. She attended Topeka schools, she was a 1941 graduate of Topeka High School and attended the University of Kansas. On September 20, 1943 she married Lloyd W. (Ted) Scott, Jr. of Topeka. When hearing of Ted's orders to ship out to Europe within days during World War II, the couple called friends and the pastor, and were wed to a full house at 10 pm in Grace Cathedral.
Lee was a member of Alpha Delta Pi social sorority; Chapter DF of PEO and president of the Topeka Junior League, where she helped develop a new project called the Next-To-New Sale. With her love of history and dramatic arts, she was active in helping develop the Topeka High School Historical Society and Children's Theater. She was a member of the First Congregational Church.
She is survived by her husband, Ted Scott of Topeka; a daughter, Elaine Scott of Lee's Summit, MO; a son, Mark Scott, of Ojai, CA; a brother-in-law, Maurice Cannady, of Van Nuys, CA and nieces and nephews in Denver, CO, Paso Roles, CA, Lake Okoboji, IA and Winterpark, FL.
The Scott family wants to thank the many friends who loved Lee and were a source of great encouragement and kindness during her long illness. They especially want to thank the devoted home and assisted caregivers of Heartland Hospice. Without their help, it would have made management of such a long-term disease impossible.
A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at Mt. Hope Chapel 4700 SW 17th St. Topeka. Inurnment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
