Lois M. Hinton

Lois M. Hinton, 64, of Topeka, passed away Thurs. March 19, 2009 at St. Luke's Northland Hospital in KC, MO. She was born in Topeka on Sept. 27, 1944, the daughter of Jim and Marian (Zart) Betsworth.

She attended Topeka Public Schools.

Lois married Jimmy Hinton on May 1, 1965, in Topeka. They were married for forty-three years. He survives.

Lois was self-employed and began her own house cleaning business in 1972, retiring in 2006. She continued to work for Manpower from 1998 to the present.

Lois was a member of the National Assn. of Letter Carriers Auxiliary No. 82 where she held different offices. She also held an office in the Kansas State Auxiliary and was a life member of the DAV Auxiliary. In addition, she did volunteer work for the Topeka Genealogical Society.

Survivors include her two children, Donald W. Hinton of Parkville, MO and Donna L. (Hinton) Chilson and son-in-law, Arthur Chilson, Jr. of Topeka; mother, Marian Schwader and step-father, Chet Schwader; brother, Albert Betsworth; two sisters, Dolly Morgan and Janice Harper; four grandsons, Brock, Chase, Tyler Hinton and Conner Chilson and two granddaughters, Natalie Hinton and Brittany Chilson. Lois enjoyed spending her free time with her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed reading.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jim Betsworth in 1956 and a brother, Jimmie Lee Betsworth in 1987.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 23 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Lois will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Sunday, where family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
