Lois Fowks, 76, of Topeka, passed away, Wednesday, February 27, 2008.
She was born January 10, 1932 in Kansas City, MO the daughter of Carl and Helen Shoemaker. She lived in a number of cities in MO and OK before settling in Joplin, MO where she graduated from Joplin High in 1949.
She worked for a number of noted Law Firms in Joplin, Kansas City, and Topeka.
She was the personal secretary for Attorney General John Anderson and continued as his personal secretary during his tenure as Governor of Kansas.
She married Robert J. Fowks on November 17th, 1960. He preceded her in death in 1991. She is survived by a son, Robert C. Fowks, Topeka.
She volunteered for a variety of causes including the V.A. Hospital and was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church.
Lois will lie in state and the family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 W. 10th. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2008 at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in the Good Shepherd Mausoleum at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
