Lois Pauline Burch, 100, Topeka, died Friday, December 7, 2012 at Lexington Place.
She was born August 28, 1912 in Potwin, KS, the daughter of Edward and Della Smith. She was raised in Potwin and Colorado Springs, graduating from High School in Potwin.
She married Albert "Al" Burch on June 1, 1930 in Potwin. They made their home in Ed Dorado where Lois worked in retail shops until she was in her mid 70's. Her last employment was in ladies' dress shops.
While in El Dorado, she was a member of First Christian Church where she sang in the choir, was a member of the church board and taught children's Sunday School classes. When she moved to Topeka, she transferred her membership to First Christian Church here. In El Dorado, she served on the advisory board at the hospital and was a member of Captain Edgar Dale American Legion Auxiliary Post #81, where she sang in the American Legion's women's chorus. Lois was a very gregarious person and hardly ever knew a stranger.
She was preceded in death by her husband on October 30, 1995. Survivors include her son, Marlyn K. (Gladys) Burch of Topeka and a niece, Karen (Bennie) Yount of Kansas City, KS.
Lois will lie in state from noon to 9:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church with a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Bella Vista Cemetery, El Dorado.
