Lois Armstrong, 86, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014.
Lois was born May 31, 1927, in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, daughter of Arnold and Leila (Fredrickson) Hansen. Lois was proud of her Danish ancestry. She graduated from Morgan High School, Morgan, Minnesota, and Huron Hospital Nursing School, Huron, South Dakota. Lois worked as a registered nurse for 30 years, retiring from Colmery-O'Neil VA Hospital in 1984.
Lois was married to Robert E. Armstrong on February 12, 1948, they later divorced.
She was member of First Lutheran Church and N.A.R.F. Lois was active at Y.W.C.A., and volunteered at Kansas Historical Society and Washburn University. Lois loved spending time with her grandson, Charlie, with whom she shared her zest of life.
Lois is survived by her two daughters, Debbie Snow, Topeka, and Teresa Smukal, Union City, California, grandson, Charlie R. Snow, III, Topeka, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Calvin Hanson.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at First Lutheran Church, Topeka. Private inurnment will take place at a later date at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2014, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka.
