Loeva Ruth Shaw, 83, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022.
She was born August 21, 1939, in Sacramento, California, the daughter of Thomas E. Shoemate and Georgie (Wood) Barrintgon.
She grew up in Elizabeth, Arkansas, moving to Kansas in her teen years. She graduated from Burlingame High School. She married Robert Dale Shaw on June 22, 1957. He preceded her in death March 1, 2015. She was also preceded in death by brother, Larry Shoemate.
Survivors include her children, Robin (Jeff) Campbell, Robert (Yvonne) Shaw, James Shaw, and Jonathan (Tanya) Shaw; four grandchildren, Andrew, Alex, Colin, and Mary; and one great-granddaughter, Ophelia.
Loeva volunteered at Linn School while her children attended, assisting with the library, field trips, and many other school activities. She was also very active with Beta Sigma Phi, where she previously served as president, and was awarded "Girl of the Year" in 1968.
She enjoyed nature and animals. She loved gardening, with the ability to make anything grow, from house plants, to trees, to flowers, to vegetables. Loeva had a great love of books and instilled that gift to her children. She also dearly loved her cats. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and a friend to all.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Memorial services will follow the visitation at 11:00 am.
