Lloyd Scott Jr.

Lloyd W. (Ted) Scott, Jr. of Topeka, KS died June 30, 2008 at the family home. He was 88 years old.

The son of Lloyd and Ruth Scott, he was bornJune 19, 1920 in Topeka. He attended Topeka schools, and was a 1938 graduate of TopekaHigh School, where he excelled as a football and track athlete. He was a letterman in both sports at the University of Kansas, from which he received a business degree in 1946. At KU, he was a member of Beta Theta Pi social fraternity and K Club.

Ted was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War. During WWII, Ted was a captain in the Army in the 278th Medium Maintenance Company. Attached to the 99th Air Force Defense Command outside Paris, on secret mission for General Eisenhower, he made the only successful transport of ammunition to desperate British forces defending the city of Antwerp, Belgium. Wounded in that mission from mortar attack a week before the Battle of the Bulge, Ted delivered his transport to the allies. Many believed the mission saved Antwerp and tipped the balance for the British under German blitzkrieg bombardment. Ted was again called to duty as the Korean Conflict erupted in 1951. He served in Korea in the Army's Korean Military Advisory Group (KMAG) that helped train South Korean troops. Ted was recognized for meritorious service in both European and Korean campaigns. He received a special commendation from the Republic of Korea. In 1953 he became vice president of Scott Motors Chevrolet, a Topeka automobile dealership founded by his father. After the dealership was sold in 1959, Ted was involved in the restaurant franchise business and commercial real estate development.

Ted was a Mason, a Rotarian, and for many years a director of the AAA Motor Club of Kansas. He was a member of the First Congregational Church.

Ted married Lois Elaine (Lee) Willcuts of Topeka on Sept. 19, 1941 in Grace Cathedral. She preceded him in death on May 19, 2005.

Survivors include Mark Scott of Ojai, CA, Elaine Scott of Lee's Summit, MO, brother-in-law Maurice Cannady of Van Nuys, CA, and nieces and nephews in Paso Robles, CA, Denver, CO, Winterpark, FL and Okoboji, IA.
