Lloyd L. Gingrich, 88, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013.
He was born in Wakefield, Kansas on September 5, 1924, the son of Ray and Goldie (Younkin) Gingrich. Lloyd attended school in Clay Center, graduating from High School there in in 1942. Lloyd joined the United States Navy in 1944, serving during WWII. He was discharged from active duty in 1946. On May 8, 1946, he married his sweetheart and lifelong companion, Eunice Butler, in Manhattan. The couple moved to Topeka in 1958. Lloyd was employed at DuPont in Topeka for more than 30 years before he retired. He belonged to Grace United Methodist Church, Orient 51 Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Arab Shrine. He was also a member of American Legion Post # 1, and the V.F.W.
He is survived by; his wife Eunice of the home, children Scott Gingrich and Janice (Bob) VandeVelde of Topeka, grandchildren; Shayne Kahle of Lawrence and Shannon Currie, of Wakarusa; Jamie Gingrich, Topeka, and Damien Gingrich, Olathe, and his step-grandchildren; Kevin VandeVelde, Todd VandeVelde, and Alicia Wyer. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Darlene. Lloyd was preceded in death by his siblings, Bob, Joe, Dick and Velda.
Cremation has taken place. A family visitation will be held at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 W. 10th Ave, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, January 28, 2013. A graveside inurnment service with military and masonic honors will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Mount Hope Cemetery, 4700 SW 17th, Topeka. A luncheon will be served at Grace United Methodist Church, 27th and SW Western, at 2:00 p.m. following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Shriners Children's Hospitals c/o Arab Shrine, 1305 South Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66612-1332.
