Lillian M. Rice, 92, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Brewster Place in Topeka.
She was born November 2, 1918 in Topeka, the daughter of John Hubbell and Sylvia Diesen White. Lillian attended Topeka public schools and graduated from Topeka High School in 1937. She was employed by the First National Bank and the Santa Fe Railroad. She also worked for the Sunflower Ordinance Plant in DeSoto, KS. Lillian married Robert J. "Bob" Rice on January 5, 1942 in Erie, KS. He preceded her in death in 2008. After her husband served in the Army, they resided in Topeka until 1961, before moving to Hays, KS, where she worked as church secretary for Dr. Orlo Choguil in the Presbyterian Church. When moving to Arvada, CO, in 1970, she served as Management Aide for the City of Arvada until retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the National Society of Tole and Decorative Painters and was an instructor. She held several blue ribbons for her paintings. She was a member of the Sons of Norway and the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Rice Brown of Ragland, AL, 3 grandsons and 3 great-grandsons.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Memorials contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
