Lila M. Byerley, 80, Topeka, died peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005.

She was born Oct. 25, 1925 in Auburn, the daughter of George W. and Ethel Fertig Hoy. She was raised in Auburn, and spent most of her adult life in the Berryton community.

Mrs. Byerley worked at the Topeka Supply Depot and later for the federal government for a total of 33 years before retiring. She later worked as a cook in the Shawnee Heights School District. She was a member of Berryton United Methodist Church, and was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. She was also active in craft shows with her crocheting, and was an avid gardener and loved fishing.

Her husband, Harry M. Byerley, Jr., died June 7, 1982. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Harold "Deac" Hoy.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Vicki J. and Dennis Dressler, Auburn, two grandchildren, Jason R. Dressler and wife, Vicki, of Topeka, Wendy Dressler, Auburn, and her great-grandson, Jacob Dressler.

Private services will be held with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Berryton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Berryton United Methodist Church, 7010 SE Berryton Rd., Berryton, 66409 or to the Peggy Kelly House, 1800 SW Fairmont Rd., Topeka, 66604.
