Lila Lurie Rannebeck Jones

Lila Lurie Rannebeck Jones, 91, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at Brewster Place. She was born in Willis, Kansas on December 15, 1930 to parents Reid Asher Zimmerman and Viola Leona (Peckham) Zimmerman.

At the age of three, Lila's father was killed in a car accident, after which Lila, her mother and brother moved in with her grandmother. When Lila was seven, her mother remarried and the family moved to Horton where the two families combined giving Lila six step-siblings. Two more children would be born into the family making it complete.

When Lila was 13, she met her future husband and father of her children, Virgil Rannebeck, at a basket supper. They were married when Lila was 17. Virgil was a service technician for Sears & Roebuck for 26 ½ years before he died Lila and Virgil had four children: Duranna, Debbie, Dennis and Diane. Lila raised her two youngest children alone for 10 years before she remarried. Lila and her second husband, Everett Jones, who worked at Goodyear, liked to dance and sometimes danced as many as three times a week at the Vinewood until it closed. They then enjoyed dancing at Croco Hall. Lila teased, "When I got married the second time I lost my Sears discount but got my tires cheaper."

Lila is an avid "puzzler," owning 40-50 jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and passing out strawberry candy and little cutie oranges to others.

Survivors include her children Duranna Crouch, Debra (Joe) Richmond, Dennis (Marilyn) Rannebeck, and Diane Mosier; step-daughter, Lou Ann (David) Porter; sister, Ruby (Jim) Roberts; brother, Jimmy Burkart; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Virgil Rannebeck in 1974, second husband, Everett Jones in 2009, and step-children, Larry Jones and Sharolyn Paxton.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Netawaka Cemetery.
