Lewis Lee "Lew" Beck, Sr. 82, of Topeka, passed away Friday, July 10, 2009 at Midland Hospice House.
Lew was born on Nov. 11, 1926 in Wewoka, OK, the son of Joseph and Myrtle (Carter) Beck.
Lew married Frieda Verderber in 1951. She preceded him in death on Nov. 7, 2005.
He served as a PFC in the Marine Corps during WWII, serving in the Pacific Theatre, Southern Philippine Campaign and Okinawa Operation.
Lew was a member of the American Legion Post #0001.
He loved his family and friends, he loved golf and boxing and he loved animals.
Survivors include two sons, Lewis Beck and his better half, Brenda Barnes, and Wes Beck, both of Topeka; two daughters from a previous marriage, Judy Beck Lawson and Susan Beck Douglas, both of OK, son-in-law, Frank MaGee; grandchildren, Matthew MaGee, Allison Brock, Julie Oxford, Cole Douglas, Kyle Douglas; sisters, Hazel Bolding, Nell June Allen; great grandchildren, Mikaiah, Marian, Brennan, Jonan, Judah-Rose; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela MaGee, sisters, Helen Weldon and Ruth Riley.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wed. July 15 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Private inurnment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Marines Corps.
