Letha Leona Sprecker, 93, Topeka, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Midland Hospice House.
Leona was born October 8, 1919 in Dover, MO, the youngest child of 13 children born to George T. and Lula M. (Martin) Wood. She attended school in Dover.
She worked as a claims processor for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Kansas for 15 years, retiring in 1985.
She was a member of Highland Park Southern Baptist Church for over forty years where she was involved in missions and bible study groups. She lived at Lexington Park Assisted Living for the past 5 1/2 years and was greatly involved in many activities.
Leona married Emmett E. Sprecker, Sr., on July 29, 1942, in Seattle Washington. He died in 1993. Survivors include sons, Karl Henry (Carol) Sprecker, Wichita, Roy Edwin (Mei Lei) Welch, Emmett Emerson Sprecker, Jr., Mayetta; daughter, Leona Kay (Tom) Fordham, Topeka; grandchildren, Kelly Sprecker, Kevin Sprecker, Jerry Welch, Carol Welch, Troy Sprecker, Shawn Fordham, Chad Fordham, Tanner Fordham; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Topeka Cemetery. Leona will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Monday.
