Lester William Currey passed away Saturday, December 20, 2003 in Overbrook, KS. He was born in Rossville, KS April 25, 1918 the son of William A. and Jossie E. Gibbs Currey. He attended school in Topeka and lived in Topeka most of his life. He served in the U.S. Army Corps during World War II in the European Theatre. While in the Army he earned the title of Corporal as well as a medal for Good Conduct. His domestic achievements include helping to build the Topeka Blvd. Bridge and retiring after 33 years at the Topeka Goodyear Plant. He was member of UAW Local 307. He was married to Mary L. Deitch on October 30, 1945. She preceded him in death July 18, 1998. He was also preceded in death by sisters Katie Streeter, Edna Streeter, Velva Klamm and Flossie Butler and his brother Clifford Currey. He is survived by two sisters Blanche Miller, Berryton and Alice Yingling, Topeka. He is also survived by a son, Steven Currey, Wichita and daughter, Susan Foster, Overbrook, and two grandchildren, Erika and William Foster.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2003 at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. He will lie in state from 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and a visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made in Lester's name to Brookside Manor, 700 W. 7th, Overbrook, KS 66524.
