Lester Loren Ewing
Lester Loren Ewing, 85, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. Mr. Ewing was born on Dec. 12, 1918, in Mill Grove, Mo., to Herschal and Bonnie Travis Ewing. He has been a resident of Topeka since 1959. Lester graduated from Chanute High School. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a communications accountant for Santa Fe Railroad, where he retired in November of 1978. Mr. Ewing was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He married Margie F. Carpenter in Tulsa, Okla. Lester was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Marjorie Ewing; and five brothers, Don, Jess, Dale, Richard and Earl. Survivors include his wife, Margie, Topeka; two daughters, Carolyn, and her husband, Floyd Davis, Topeka, and Donna, and her husband, John Keller, Kahoka, Mo.; four granddaughters, DeNeisse and Dennis Browning, Kim and Gary Rhoades, Christy Keller and Kelly Keller; four great-grandchildren, Dustin, Desiree and Damon Br owning and Dylan Rhoades; a sister, Darlene Carr, Independence; and a stepbrother, Clarence Crocker, Tulsa, Okla. Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Ewing will lie in state after 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice House, 200 S.W.
