Lester A. Huber
Lester Alexander Huber,89, of Topeka died January 31, 2004 at a local hospital. He was born June 17, 1914 at Horton, Kansas to William C. and Rosa Bell Schoonover Huber. He grew up in Powhattan, Kansas and graduated from Powhattan High School in 1932. He graduated from Emporia State Teacher's College in 1939 and received a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Wyoming at Laramie in 1960.
Lester coached and taught 37 years in Kansas including high schools in Turon, Alden, Blue Springs and Hiawatha. He also coached at Highland Junior College and from 1960 to 1976 taught at Roosevelt Junior High in Topeka. He retired in 1976. Lester had lived in Topeka since 1960. He was a lifetime member of the N.E.A. and the Topeka Retired Teachers Association.
He was married to Marjorie Davis November 30, 1940 at Council Grove, Kansas.
Mr. Huber is survived by his wife and one son, Anthony (Tony) Huber of Topeka, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 5 sisters. Since his retirement he has spent many winters in Mission, Texas.
He will lie in state on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004 beginning at Noon. The funeral service will be Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004 at 1:00 pm in Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel and internment will follow in Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery.
