Leslie O. "Les" Pierce, 94, passed away on December 8th, 2007. Memorial services will be held at Crestview United Methodist Church on December 28th at 10:00 a.m. Les was born the twin son of James O. and Agness (Pflager) Pierce on November 9, 1913, in the Elk community of Chase County. He attended the Elk Union grade and high schools, and was married to Mabel K. Henry on May 1, 1935. They had two children: Donalda Jane and David Richard.
In 1947 he left the Elk community and moved to Cottonwood Falls, then to Strong City as the manager of the lumberyard. In 1955 he moved to Topeka as the resident manager of Mount Hope Cemetery until his retirement in 1986.
He was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church and served as Treasurer, Church School Superintendent and taught a Sunday School Class for many years. He was awarded a 50 year pin in 1979 from the Modern Woodman of America. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1946, a graduate of the Menninger Bible Study Course and a graduate of the Refrigeration Service Engineering Society.
He is survived by his daughter, son, five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, twin brother (Lester), and twin brothers (William Bud and Walter Leroy). Entombment of the cremains will take place in the Mausoleum of Mount Hope Cemetery with his wife.
