LeRoy Pitt, 87, of Topeka, passed away, Sunday, February 11, 2007.
A lifelong resident of Topeka he was born November 5, 1919, the son of Vincent and Mildred (Doerner) Pitt.
A graduate of Topeka High School, LeRoy served in the U.S. Army from November, 1941 to March, 1946. In August, 1944, he was deployed overseas and stationed in M.A.S.H. Units near Paris and other areas in Europe.
After the war, he was employed by the Kansas State Highway Commission/KDOT as a Civil Engineer until retiring in 1984.
He was an active member of St. Johns Lutheran Church.
LeRoy married Martha Wolf April 3, 1942 in Little Rock, Arkansas. She survives. They were blessed with two daughters, Allison "Lissa" and Susan and their respective husbands Kevin Gorman and Scott Zane. Other survivors include grandchildren, Philip and Wendy Gorman and Timothy and Stephen Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at St. Johns Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Mr. Pitt will lie in state after 12:00 noon Tuesday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. that evening. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Johns Lutheran Church or to Topeka Lutheran School.
