Leone M. James, 79, Valley Falls, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017, at Midland Hospice in Topeka, Kansas.
She was born on August 19, 1937, in Helena, Ohio, the daughter of Betty (Frazier) and Frank Hovis.
Leone graduated from Risingsun High School, Risingsun, Ohio. She was a member of the Meriden United Methodist Church, Nobelles of the Arab Temple Shrine, Topeka, Kansas, and belonged to Red Hat Mamas Red Hats group. Leone retired from Menniger's Credit Union in 2000.
Leone married John James on April 11, 1956, in Inez, Kentucky. John passed away on March 11, 2009. Leone was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Hovis.
Surviving are son, Russell James (Janet), Ozawkie, daughter, Betty James (Mark Meadors), Dallas, Texas, grandsons, Benjamin James, Meriden KS and Mitchell James (Natalie), Waco, Texas, and granddaughter, Danielle Senn (Ryan Hulings) Chicago, Illinois. Great grandchildren, Camryn and Kyla James, Waco, Texas and Wyatt James, Valley Falls, KS. Brothers Donald Hovis (Judy), Bradner, Ohio, Ronald Hovis (Maryann), Risingsun, Ohio and sister-in-law Nancy Hovis, Risingsun, Ohio.
Leone will lie in state after 1 pm on Thursday, May 18that Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 19,2017, at Penwell Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th, Topeka KS. Cremation will follow the services. Private inurnment will be at a later date.
