Leonard L. Johnson, 87, of Topeka, died February 14, 2013. He attended Scranton Public Schools and was graduated from Washburn University. He served in World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He worked for National Biscuit Company for 35 years.
He served for over 50 years on the board of the Topeka Rescue Mission. He attended Wanamaker Nazarene Church.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Phyllis of Topeka; son, Steve (Dee) Johnson of Topeka; two grandsons, Ryan (Nicole) Johnson of Topeka and Keith (Melissa) of Springfield, MO; step-grandson, Jeff (Kim) Goodnow of Olathe; eight great-grandchildren, one step great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy and Philip Johnson.
Funeral ceremonies will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Interment will follow at the Topeka Cemetery, Topeka. Leonard will lie in state after 3 p.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N. Kansas Ave, Topeka, KS 66608.
