Leona Rayls

Leona S. Rayls, 94, passed away Tue. August 23, 2022 surrounded by her family at her home in Silver Lake, Ks. She was born February 19, 1928 in Niangua, Mo., the daughter of Sherl & Julia (Cantrell) Johns where she grew up on her family farm. She married Donald P. Rayls Aug. 14, 1946, in Niangua, Mo and was married almost 50 years. She graduated cosmetology graduate school and went on to be a beautician and owned Leona's Beauty Salon in Topeka, Ks for over 30 years. They lived in Topeka for many years while raising their two sons and moved to Auburn in her retirement years. She loved fishing, gardening, canning, hand stitching quilts and dolls, and cooking huge family dinners. She also was a member for many years at Western Hills Baptist Church in Auburn, Ks.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Shannon M. (Todd) Zeilinger, Silver Lake, Donald E. Rayls & Kristy, Topeka, Joseph (Joe) P. Rayls, Topeka, Julie A. (Dirk) Henderson, Meriden, Jon (Lindsey) Douglas and 8 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, a niece, Beverly Page-Ferrell, two great nephews, Justin (Erin)Ferrell, Derek (Stephanie) Ferrell and many others. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald P. Rayls, two sons Donald E. Rayls and James D. Rayls, a granddaughter Jennifer L. Rayls, and a great niece Heather Ferrell, also two sisters, Lucille Baird, Lola Mae Page, two brothers, Bill Johns and Darrell Johns.
