Leona J. McQueen, 95, of Topeka, died on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Midland Hospice House.
Leona was born on August 8, 1918 to Charley H. and Ruth (Banks) Chick in Whiting, KS. She graduated from Whiting High School.
After her graduation, Leona moved to Topeka and worked in several different jobs including housekeeper as well as a clerk at the Schlichter Corner Grocery Store in Topeka. Leona worked for many years as a clerk for the USD 501 school district eventually retiring after 18 years.
Leona was married to Louis McQueen on January 8, 1942 in Holton; he preceded her in death on October 13, 2002.
Leona is survived by her son, Ronald McQueen of Topeka, three grandchildren, Jeffrey and Bryan McQueen and Lorie (Bryan) Duncan, one great-granddaughter, Laina Stilley, one brother, Duane (Betty) Chick of Whiting, three sisters, Nadine Clay of Broken Arrow, OK, Grace Bender of Bella Vista, AR, and Hazel Miles of Topeka, a sister-in-law, Dora Chick of Hagerman, ID as well numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, by two brothers, Donald and Lloyd Chick.
A graveside service will take place at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 28 at the Wetmore Cemetery in Wetmore, KS. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00p.m., Monday, January 27 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka.
