Leona M. Cummings, 95, Topeka, died Monday, July 11, 2005, at McCrite Plaza.
Mrs. Cummings was a homemaker and a cook for USD 501. She had many hobbies including creating lovely ceramic pieces for friends and family, cake
decorating, growing flowers and gardening. She enjoyed cooking and hosting family events.
She was born January 12, 1910, in Wakarusa, the daughter of Dan and Alwinnie Meyners Morris.
Mrs. Cummings was a member of the Seabrook United Church of Christ. She was active in her church until her vision declined. She was also a member of
the Oakland Rebekah Lodge #616.
She was married to Charles A. Cummings on February 20, 1930, and he preceded her in death on November 29, 1994. Survivors include two daughters, Erma J Phillips, San Jacinto, CA, and Betty M. Goodrich, Waseca, MN; a foster son, Morris W. Sykes, Topeka; a sister, Lora Canaday, Topeka; ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
Services will be 10:00am, Friday, July 15, 2005 at the First Congregational Church United Church of Christ. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Cummings will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will greet friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Thursday July 14.
