Leon "Lee" Carpenter, 66 of Topeka, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 29 at his home.
Lee was born on September 4, 1937 to Ida and Leon "Bud" Carpenter in Campbellsport, WI.
Lee served in the US Air Force in Intelligence Services from 1955 - 1959. Prior to purchasing and managing Graphic Promotions in 1987, Lee worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance, Topeka News and Fleming Company. Lee retired in 1989.
Lee was an active member of Christ Lutheran and board member of Topeka Lutheran School. Other civic and professional activities included; Jaycees, Topeka Volunteer Center, Junior Achievement, Sales and Marketing Executives, American Cancer Society, National Association of Printers and Lithographers and the Sherwood Lake Club.
Lee and Darleen Lehman married on September 7 of 1958, Darleen survives. Other survivors include a son Kevin Carpenter, daughter Jill Carpenter-Romine both of Topeka and 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Also surviving is his mother Ida, sister Audrey Fuhrmann, brother Lamont Carpenter and special uncle Lee "Ace" Carpenter all from Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church on Monday at 10:00 a.m., November 3. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mr. Carpenter will lie in-state from noon Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
