Leo E. Miller, 77, Topeka, passed away October 10, 2008 after struggling with an extended illness while surrounded by his loving family. He was born at Tampa, KS. January 17, 1931, the son of Emil Fredrick and Mildred Matilda (Will) Miller. He moved to Herington, then to Concordia, and made his home in Emporia. He worked 3 years for Albertsons Grocery and 23 years at Reebles Grocery store. In 1969 he went to work for Prudential Ins. Co., moving to Topeka in 1972. He obtained his GED at the age of 47. After 24 years with Prudential, he retired. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and attended Lutheran school through the 8th grade. He was a long time and active member and trustee at Faith Lutheran church in Topeka.
Leo is survived by his loving wife and best friend Lola Mae (Shirley) Miller of 45 years, 5 children, Pamela (Terry) Price, Donald Miller, Rick (Carol) Miller, all of Emporia and Shirley (Joe) Bacon of Berryton, and Rebecca (Tommy) Sorrells, Austin, TX. He has 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two sisters, Lorna (John) Brinser and Dorothy (Dave) Roberson. A brother, Roy Miller and 2 sons, Doyle Miller and Benjamin Nicholas preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Mausoleum at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Mr. Miller will lie in state after noon Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.
