Leland G. Specht, 89, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016 after a brief illness.
Leland was born February 21, 1927 in Washington County, Kansas, the son of Paul and Myrtle (Simnitt) Specht.
He was employed by the City of Topeka Water Department for 35 years, retiring in 1989.
Leland married Alice "Elizabeth" Rice on March 21, 1948 in Manhattan. She survives. Other survivors include children, Sharyl (Jerry) Coffey, Amy (Mike)White, Keith Specht, Glenn (Sandy) Specht, Clay (Patti) Specht, all of Topeka, Eldon (Janelle) Specht, Keller, TX; sisters, Donna Diskau, Riley, KS, Shirley Higgins, Manhattan, KS, Beverly Sundgren, Leonardville, KS, Kay Blodgett, Manhattan; 8 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Brian Specht; and sister, Ila Simons.
A Memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society or Topeka Rescue Mission, Children's Christmas Fund.
